Stephen Gleadow is an emerging artist from the United States living and working in Beijing, China. His work spans painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and film/video.
His practice engages extensive experimentation with materials and the reconfiguration of found objects and artifacts. Through layering, transfer, and accumulation, his work explores emergent systems in which fragments and remnants function as records of information, memory, language, and transformation. These elements coalesce into referential compositions that oscillate between abstraction, mapping, and excavation, synthesizing material surroundings and lived experience into layered systems informed by art history, scientific theory, and spiritual cosmology.

Superposition: Babel is a mixed media work constructed from fragments of past works drawn from the ongoing series Lexicon, in which remnants generated through the studio process are reorganized into layered reconstructed systems of language, and memory. Borrowing from the narrative of the Tower of Babel and the themes of fragmentation and confusion of language, the work brings together unstable structures and overlapping visual systems that shift between mapping and excavation.
